Veronika Dzhioeva is one of the most outstanding opera singers of our time, whose name has become synonymous with exceptional vocal mastery and emotional depth. Her voice, distinguished by its rich timbre, remarkable range, and expressiveness, is recognized as one of the finest sopranos of the modern era.
A defining moment in Veronika Dzhioeva’s career was her participation in the Maria Callas Grand Prix. It was there that her talent caught the attention of the renowned conductor Teodor Currentzis, who invited her to join the Novosibirsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (NOVAT). From 2006 to 2022, Veronika was the theatre’s prima donna, performing some of the most challenging soprano roles and earning the love of audiences.

Her victory in 2009 in the first season of the television competition Bolshaya Opera on the Kultura channel marked a turning point, propelling her career to new heights. This success opened doors to the world’s leading stages, and in 2022, she was honored with the title of a member of the Russian Musical Society, recognizing her contribution to the development of operatic art.

A sensational milestone in her career was her debut as Lady Macbeth in Verdi’s Macbeth at the Zurich Opera House in a production by Barrie Kosky. Opera critics hailed her performance as a true sensation, praising the power of her voice, dramatic intensity, and profound character portrayal.

Another remarkable chapter in her career was her performance as Tosca at the Teatro Lirico di Cagliari (Italy) in 2024. Looking ahead, in February 2025, Veronika is set to debut in the role of Gioconda at the same theatre, an event already anticipated as one of the highlights of the upcoming opera season.
The Beginning of Her Journey
Veronika Romanovna Dzhioeva was born in Tskhinvali, South Ossetia, into the family of a professional athlete. From an early age, her father instilled in her a love for classical music and dreamed that his daughter would one day become an opera singer. Today, his dream has come true: Veronika has graced the world’s greatest stages and earned acclaim not only in Russia but far beyond its borders.

Music has been an integral part of Veronika’s life since childhood. Listening to recordings of Éva Marton, Maria Bieşu, and Renata Tebaldi shaped her refined musical taste and inspired her future career. With her innate talent and relentless dedication, she quickly rose to prominence as one of the stars of the opera world.
International Recognition
Within just five years of her career, Veronika Dzhioeva was honored with the titles of People's Artist of South and North Ossetia, Honored Artist of Dagestan, and Honored Artist of Russia. In 2020, she was awarded the Medal of the Republic of North Ossetia–Alania “For the Glory of Ossetia.” Her collection includes numerous awards and accolades from both Russian and international institutions.

Veronika has performed for the Queens of Spain, Sweden, Denmark, and Thailand and was personally invited to sing for the President of Greece.

Veronika has collaborated with some of the world’s finest orchestras, including the Bayerischer Rundfunk, London Symphony Orchestra, Russian National Orchestra, and Musica Aeterna, among others. She has worked with legendary conductors such as Mariss Jansons, Valery Gergiev, Trevor Pinnock, Ingo Metzmacher, Teodor Currentzis, Jacques Van Steen, Daniele Callegari, Mario Carminati, and Hartmut Haenchen.

On stage, she has partnered with renowned directors, including Adrian Noble, Dmitri Tcherniakov, Peter Sellars, and Paco Azorín, among others. Their visionary productions allowed Veronika to fully showcase the depth of her dramatic artistry, creating a unique atmosphere for each performance.

A special place in her career is occupied by key premieres and performances on the world’s leading stages, where her vocal brilliance and acting talent were highly praised by audiences and critics alike. Her participation in the premiere of Aleko at the Mariinsky Theatre (directed by Mariusz Treliński), staged in St. Petersburg and Baden-Baden under the baton of Maestro Valery Gergiev, brought her great success.
In April 2011, the audiences of Munich and Lucerne applauded her performance of Tatyana in Eugene Onegin with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Maestro Mariss Jansons. This collaboration continued with her interpretation of the soprano part in Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in Amsterdam, St. Petersburg, and Moscow.

As a guest artist, Veronika performs leading roles in some of the world’s most renowned opera houses, including the Houston Grand Opera, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Mariinsky Theatre, the Grand Théâtre de Genève, La Monnaie in Brussels, the Prague State Opera, the Finnish National Opera, the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, the Teatro Massimo in Palermo, the Teatro Real in Madrid, the Verona Philharmonic Theatre, the Hamburg State Opera, and the Deutsche Oper Berlin.
Critics and fans alike highly praised Veronika Dzhioeva’s debut album, Opera Arias, recorded in collaboration with the Novosibirsk Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra.

Veronika is actively involved in charitable projects.

Her performances have helped raise funds for numerous causes, including support for the children of Beslan, orphanages, and children with disabilities. In Moscow, she participated in the charity concert Life in Motion, dedicated to helping children with special needs. Following the tragic fire at the Winter Cherry shopping mall in Kemerovo, all proceeds from her benefit concert were donated to the victims’ relief fund. She also performed at a charity concert to support the restoration of the Konchezersky Church.

The Veronika Dzhioeva Festival has been held twice in her native Ossetia, first in August 2015. A year later, the festival took place in Moscow at the Novaya Opera Theatre and at NOVAT. The festival has been a resounding success with audiences and has become an annual event.
